Races are much as they are in any other track event, except run on the uneven grass of the park and not a flat prepared surface. The high jump used to be from grass to grass but nowadays we provide mats for landing on. There is a slight difference in the long jump and the hop-step-and-leap with jumps measured from the point of take-off, not from a predetermined spot. There are therefore no foul jumps unless the competitor runs through the pit. Similarly, a competitor can have another try if they stop their run before jumping. |
