Music for the individual piping competitions is split into two styles:
one for light music, and the other for Piobaireachd (Pibroch).

T
he Light Music section is made of three categories: March; Strathspey and Reel; and Hornpipe and Jig. This music is jaunty and easy listening.

Pibroch is classical bagpipe music with both precise and complicated notes. It often takes the form of a salute, lament or commemoration of an event or person and should be played to reflect the meaning of the piece.
The piping is located in three areas of the Public Park - two for Seniors and one for Juniors. The junior competitions for light music (under 14 and 14 - 17) and the Piobaireachd (under 18) highlight young talents who are continuing this Scottish tradition.
