Lights

Though the throwing events might be more familiar as Scottish events, no Games are complete without the suite of athletic Light events. Races are much as they are in any other track event, except run on the uneven grass of the park and not a flat prepared surface. The high jump used to be from grass to grass but nowadays we provide mats for landing on.

There is a slight difference in the long jump and the hop-step-and-leap with jumps measured from the point of take-off, not from a predetermined spot. There are therefore no foul jumps unless the competitor runs through the pit. Similarly, a competitor can have another try if they stop their run before jumping.
